WSOP Day 11 - Live Blog

By Pauly
Las Vegas, NV

I hope that you're not having a case of the Mondays. Me? Everyday is like a Monday at the WSOP. All I know is that it's Day 11 and I have been at the Rio for 11 straight days.

One of the new features I'm doing this year is a half-baked podcast with Michalski called the Tao of Pokerati, where two of your favorite bloggers give you a snazzy WSOP update in about three minutes.

We have two new installments... Episode 3: Milwaukee’s Best Vinny and Episode 4: Late-Night Piladies.

To listen to more of our hijinks, here's the Tao of Pokerati archives...
Episode 1: Game On!
Episode 2: Dirty Sklanchez
Episode 2.5: Poker Couture (with special guest Benjo)
Episode 3: Milwaukee’s Best Vinny
Episode 4: Late-Night Piladies
FYI... You can right-click and Save As to download the MP3s to your hard drive.

I'm digging the three-minute segments. It's perfect for everyone who has Adult ADD and everyone else with short attention spans. We'd like to make them longer, but we really don't have the time to devote more than a couple of minutes every day. Shit, Michalski is only at the Rio for a few hours a day and he often disappears for several days at a time.

5:20pm...

Event #13 2.5K NL Final Table: Steve Merrifield and Duncan Bell are heads up for the bracelet.

Event #14 10K Stud Final Table: Down to 7. Alexander Kostritsyn = chipleader. Seidel recently crippled and is super short.

Event #15 Ladies: 35 remaining. Amanda Leaterman, Evy Ng, Lathy Liebert, Olga Varkonyi, and Maridu were all eliminated. Sweet Svetlana = chipleader. Will the Brooklyn glum girl go deep?

Event #16 08: 117 to go. Miami John = chipleader. Shirley Rosario is still alive with 21K. Kristy Gazes has 14.5K. Billy the Croc was one of the first eliminations on Day 2.

Event #18 Deuce-to-Seven: Just about to start. DonkeyBomber is playing along with PearlJammer, Fossilman, Mike Matusow, and Roland de Wolfe. Erik Seidel is the defending champion.

6:20pm...

Event #13 2.5K NL Final Table: Duncan Bell wins bracelet in Event #13. I caught the final hand which was a cooler... Aces versus Tens.

Event #14 10K Stud Final Table: 5 to go. David Oppenheim is busto. The Ruskie kid, Alexander Kostritsyn, is running away with it.

Event #15 Ladies: Dow to 26 in the Ladies. Linda Johnson is top 10 in chips. Sweet Svetlana Gromenkova is still the chipleader.

By the way... check out some sizzling pics of Lacey Jones courtesy of the hombres at WCP.

Event #16 08: 99 remaining out of 553. Top 54 get paid. Kristy Gazes and Shirley Rosario both have chips. Scott Clements near the top of the leaderboard.

Event #18 Deuce-to-Seven: This is always one of the most prestigious events among the Vegas pros. The field is super deep. Last time I checked, it was up to 78. Phil Ivey, Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Jen Harman Patrik Antonius, Scotty Nguyen, Erick Lindgren, Jesus, Billy Baxter Tony G, Brandon Adams, OMGClayAiken, Allen Cunningham, Eli Elezra, My Main Man Freddy Deeb, Carlos Mortensen, Jeffrey Lisandro, Layne Flack, Chau Giang, Greg "FBT" Mueller, Daniel Alaei, David Grey, Mike Wattel, Sheiky, and Johnny World Hennigan.

7:20pm...

Event #14 10K Stud Final Table: Down to 5. The Ruskie kid is still in the lead with Minh Ly and Erik Seidel both shortstacked.

Event #15 Ladies: Down to 23. Sweet Svetlana = still chipleader.

There's been some buzz in the room over Shavonne Mitchell who is playing in the Ladies Event. I had no clue who she was but one of the floor guys clued me in that she's a high stakes cash game player in Atlantic City. She has been crushing the cash games at the Rio. One source said she's taken down at least $100K since she arrived. Mitchell has been playing 25/50 NL and 200/400 mixed games.

Event #16 08: 81 players remaining. Scott Clements is back on top. David Williams and Gobboboy are in the Top 5 in chips. Could this be the event that Gobbo makes the final table?

Event #18 Deuce-to-Seven: Sick table... Lyle Berman, Doyle Brunson, Brandon Adams, Billy Baxter, Erick Lindgren, and Tony G. I feel bad for the poor guy in Seat 5 who drew that table.

8:20pm...

Event #14 10K Stud Final Table: Down to 4. Fu Wong is the chipleader. Erik Seidel eliminated in 5th place.

Event #15 Ladies: Down to 17. Sweet Svetlana running away with it. Linda Johnson out in 23rd place.

Event #18 Deuce-to-Seven: Roland de Wolfe is out. Todd Brunson out to a monster lead. Phil Ivey is second in chips.

10:11pm...

Wifi went out in the Rio. I saw a couple of panic attacks from different media reps who lost everything they were trying to update. I feel their pain. Change100 had to leave the floor and head to the media room and use a hardline in order to update the Ladies event. That's dedication.

Due to internet issues, I went to the Hooker Bar while those wifi problems cleared up. I met up with Michalski and we taped another episode of Tao of Pokerati... live from the Hooker Bar.

Event #14 10K Stud Final Table: Eric Brooks wins the bracelet after beating Fu Wong heads up.

Event #15 Ladies: Down to 12. Sweet Svetlana still out in front.

Event #16 08: 53 players remaining as the money bubble just broke. Scott Clements is second in chips. Gobboboy is also in the Top 10. Shirley Rosario and Kristy Gazes are in the top 20. Kristy busted Barry Greenstien and got a copy of Ace on the River. I spotted Gobbo get a massage during one of the breaks.

Event #18 Deuce-to-Seven: Official numbers... 85 players with 272 rebuys. Top 14 win prize money. Todd Brunson still out in front.

11:50pm...

This was the 2+2 thread of the day. Seriously. I laughed so hard that I fell out of my chair and tweaked my back. Oh, and Gobbomom rules.

Event #15 Ladies: The final table is set. Sweet Svetlana is the chipleader. Also making the final table... Patty Till, Roslyn Quarto, Marla Crumpler, Sue Porter, Debbie Mitchell, Christine Priday, Yesenia Garcia, and Anh Le (she's the chick who lost to Jen Tilly heads up for the Ladies Event in 2005).

Event #16 08: 41 to go.... Gobbo, Kristy, and Shirley are all still in.

Event #18 Deuce-to-Seven: 63 left. Durrrrrrr is the chipleader, but he has poppa and junior Brunson nipping at his heels, along with this dude name Phil Ivey who is my pick to win the bracelet in this event. Recent bustouts include Jen Harman, Scotty Nguyen, Erick Seidel, Phil Hellmuth, Allen Cunningam, and Lyle Berman.

1:00am...

Went home and wrote poolside while Schecky and JenLeo were watching bad Nat Portman movies. My concentration level is much higher when I wrote at home. I finished up the first draft of an article, when Change100 arrived home from work. She joined me poolside and cranked out player bios for the Ladies final table.

I checked Poker News and Kristy and Shirley and Gobbo were going deep in O8, so I made the decision to write a little longer then drive back to the Rio to sweat them. There's zero traffic at this time of night.

I wonder if Michalski is still at the Hooker Bar?

2:11am...

Still working on two different assignments. Might not get to the Rio after all.

Event #16 08: Down to 19. Kristy Gazes is out in 28th place. Gobboboy and Shirley are still in. The Suicide King, Ted Forrest, has taken over the chiplead.

3:02am...

Event #16 08: Shirley Rosario out in 19th. Congrats on cashing!
